Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted light to moderate rain in different parts of the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9am Sunday.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Khulna, Barishal and Rajshahi divisions with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over the country," said a Met Office bulletin issued this morning.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The highest temperature on Saturday was recorded 35.5°C in Rajshahi, while today's minimum temperature was 24°C in Feni.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours was recorded 99mm in Feni.

The sun sets at 5:59pm today and rises at 5:46am on Monday in the capital.

The lowest temperature in the country this morning was recorded at 9.3 degree Celsius in Chuadanga. The northern district has been recording the lowest temperature for three days in a row.

Cold weather is disrupting day-to-day life in the district and the poor are the worst sufferers.

Moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during late night till morning, said a regular bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

"The existing temperature may rise a little from Sunday," said Md Shahinul Islam, a meteorologist of BMD.

Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

Night temperature may rise slightly and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged across the country.

The low pressure area over southeast Bay and adjoining area persists. One of its associated trough extends up to northeast Bay.

UNB's Chuadanga correspondent reports that poor people, especially daily labourers, are the worst sufferers due to this cold spell. Many of them preferred to remain indoor due to the shivering weather.

Movement was also disrupted due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.

People are thronging the local markets to buy warm clothes.

Rakibul Hasan, in-charge of the Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre, said, "The weather department has recorded a minimum temperature of 9.3 degree Celsius on Saturday which is the lowest temperature across the country this year. The mercury may fall in the coming days."

Meanwhile, the hospitals in the districts are overwhelmed with patients with cold-related diseases.

The UNB correspondent found that over 150 children and many adults are admitted at the outdoor facilities of hospitals.

Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Milon, a child specialist of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said, "As a mild cold wave is sweeping over the district, the number of patients with cold-related diseases are increasing day by day. All the physicians and staff are struggling to provide healthcare services to the patients."

Country's maximum temperature on Monday was recorded 32.0 degrees Celsius at Cox's Bazar, while the minimum temperature today was 12.4 degrees Celsius at Tetulia. 

The sun sets at 05:11 pm today and rises at 06:28 am tomorrow in the capital.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower local cautionary signal number 4 and hoist signal number 7 instead as the cyclone has entered within the 500 km range of the coast of Bangladesh.

According to the latest bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the deep depression over the east-central Bay and adjoining areas moved north-westwards and intensified into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay and adjoining west-central Bay.

Sea will remain very rough near the eye of the cyclone.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice

Under the peripheral effect of the cyclone, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh are likely to experience gusty or squally winds of 62-88 kph in addition to heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Under the influence of deep depression, new moon phase and steep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of coastal Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar districts and their offshore islands and char area likely to be inundated by the wind driven surge height of 5-7 feet above the normal astronomical tide.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to hoist at the mast local cautionary signal No 3 to alert vessels of a possible squall.

The weather office's advisory for cautionary signal No 3 -- which means a depression has formed and may affect the port later -- comes in the wake of the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay and the adjoining Northwest Bay.

It is likely to intensify further, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a special bulletin on Saturday morning.

Under its influence, a deep convection is taking place over the North Bay and adjoining areas.

Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain closer to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, the bulletin said.

They have also been advised not to venture into the deep sea.

A mild heatwave is sweeping through Bangladesh, the weather department said on Thursday, reports UNB.

“A mild heatwave is sweeping through the districts of Cumilla, Chandpur, Jashore and Satkhira, and it may continue,” the weather department said in its bulletin on Thursday.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country, it added.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The weather office recorded the highest rainfall of 60mm in Khulna in 24 hours till 6am on Thursday.

The highest temperature was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius in Cumilla and Chandpur of Chattogram division, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 24.5 degrees in Khepupara of Barishal division.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area has formed over the East Central Bay and the adjoining North Bay. It is likely to intensify.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, the centre of the low to Assam across Southern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to the Northwest Bay, as per the bulletin.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate elsewhere over the North Bay, it added.
