Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said, “It has taken 19
years for our economy to grow to 100 billion. The size of our economy now
stands at 411 billion and per capita income has risen to 2,554. In the next
financial year, the size of our economy will be 500 billion dollars.
He said this while addressing a function on the occasion of
Bangladesh's transition to developing countries on Sunday (January 2). The
event was organized by the Department of Economic Relations at the Bangabandhu
International Conference Center in the capital. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
was also present on the occasion as the chief guest.
At present, the foreign exchange reserves are around 45 to
46 billion, said the finance minister. I believe that inshallah we will be able
to increase the reserves to 50 billion by the end of this year. The rate of
education has increased in the country, poverty has decreased. The size of our
annual development program has increased. The state of the world economy is not
good in covid, yet Bangladesh is doing well. We will transform it into a
hunger-free high-income country by 2030.
