Metrorail authorities are planning to test the overall
effectiveness of the Metrorail operation in phases. MAN Siddique, Managing
Director of Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Limited (DMTCL) told the media on
Wednesday (January 5).
MAN Siddique said, "We have so far brought 10 out of 24
sets of metro trains to complete the overall effectiveness and integrated
testing of the metro rail line and to run the train on a trial basis."
More metro trainsets are ready for shipment, he said, adding
that the dream public transport metro rail is expected to start its journey on
the Uttara-Agargaon route from the month of this year's victory.
According to the project officials, the actual construction
progress of the first phase of construction of Metrorail from Uttara to
Agargaon is 90.08 percent and overall construction progress is 70.04 percent.
Officials said the progress of the second phase of
construction work from Agargaon to Motijheel has reached 73.08 percent, while
the combined progress of electrical and mechanical systems and procurement of
rolling stock (rail coaches) and depot equipment has reached 70.91 percent.

swing even during the coronavirus epidemic following strict health regulations.
Siddique said the work on the rail project could be

Initially, the length of the metro rail route up to
Motijheel was 20.10 km. It was later extended to Kamalapur railway station and
extended by 1.16 km. As a result, the number of stations also increased to 16.
The entire 21.26 km route from Uttara to Motijheel-Kamalapur
railway station can be traveled in less than 40 minutes and the metro rail is
expected to carry 60,000 passengers per hour.
Rooftop steelwork of eight out of nine stations from Uttara
to Agargaon has been completed and mechanical, electrical and plumbing work of
nine stations is in progress.
In addition, work is underway to build entry and exit structures in line with the much-awaited commercial activities of the Metrorail.
