The ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route has resumed
after being closed for six and a half hours due to heavy fog. Today, Wednesday
(January 5) at around 10:15 am, the ferry service started when the level of fog
in the Padma decreased.
Mohammad Salam Hossain, Manager, Commerce Branch, Aricha
Office, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, confirmed the matter.
Salam Hossain said three ferries anchored in the middle of
the Padma with vehicles and passengers at around 1am on Tuesday. Later, the
ferry service was temporarily suspended to avoid accidents on the waterway.
He said the ferry service has resumed as the fog has receded
in the river. Fifteen ferries are plying on the waterway to cross the vehicles
parked in the Paturia Ghat area. However, due to fog, the ferry was closed for
a long time in both the ghat areas and more than 800 vehicles including
passenger buses, small cars and general freight trucks are waiting to cross the
waterway.
