Polygamy: High Court rules on the provision of permission

The High Court has issued a rule not only on the existing system of obtaining permission for polygamy but also on the question of guaranteeing equal rights in case of polygamy. The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman issued the rule on Wednesday (January 5). Besides, the High Court wanted to know why the policy on polygamy would not be directed.

The law secretary and the secretary of the religion ministry have been asked to respond to the rule.

Lawyers Ishrat Hasan and Jamiul Haque Faisal appeared for the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar represented the state.

Supreme Court lawyer Ishrat Hasan filed the writ petition in the High Court on December 13.
