Santosh Gupta is one of the brightest stars in the country's
newspaper world. Today is the 97th birth anniversary of this bright star. He
was born on 9 January 1925 in the village of Runsi in Jhalokati. He lost his
father and uncle in his childhood just 15 days apart. Santosh Gupta was the
only child of his parents. His mother Kiranbala raised him alone.
He was a journalist for almost half a century starting from
1957. Santosh Gupta started his career in 1944 in the IG Prison Office of
Writers Building, Calcutta. He ended his career as a senior assistant editor of
the Daily News. In addition to Daily News, he has worked in Daily Azad. He
added a different dimension to the profession of journalism even though he was
initiated into the political consciousness in the history of the country's
newspapers.
Apart from being an objective journalist, he has written 14
books on various subjects including poetry, art, painting, and politics. His
writings in various journals were a kind of direction for many political
leaders. His ‘Aniruddher Kolam’ was also widely admired by the intelligentsia.
His published books include the fountain of history and the beacon of light.
For his contribution to journalism and literature, he has
been awarded many awards, medals and honors including Ekushey Padak,
Sher-e-Bangla Padak, Bangabandhu Padak, Maulana Tarkbagish Padak, Zahur Hossain
Smriti Padak along with the highest state award of Bangladesh.
