Naval police have recovered the bodies of four persons who
went missing after a passenger trawler sank in the Dhaleshwari river at Fatulla
Dharmaganj Ghat in Narayanganj. Five days after the incident, the bodies were
found floating on Sunday (January 9) morning. Among them are the bodies of a
missing woman named Jasmine Akter and her daughter.
Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service
Abdullah Al Arefin confirmed the news.
He said that 4 bodies were found floating near Dharmaganj
Ghat in the morning. Six more are still missing. The sunken trawler has not yet
been identified. The locals informed us when they saw four bodies floating away
from the place where the trawler sank. We immediately went to rescue. Attempts
are being made to identify the body.
On the morning of January 5, the trawler with more than 50 passengers left Nakhalpara Sepaibari ghat in Fatulla for the Dharmaganj ferry terminal. The trawler sank when it reached the middle of the Dhaleshwari river and hit a passenger launch named MV Farhan bound for Dhaka from Barisal. Although most of the passengers were able to swim to shore at that time, 6 passengers including four members of the same family went missing.
