Per capita income will exceed three thousand dollars this year

Local government minister Mohammad Tajul Islam hopes that the average per capita income of the people of the country will exceed three thousand dollars this year.

He expressed this hope in his speech as the chief guest at the 'Bill Collection Award' presentation ceremony organized by Dhaka WASA at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Sunday.

"Our average income has grown like magic in the last one century," he said. And the reason is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, is leading the country. When she came to power in 2009, our income was below 700. In the last decade, our per capita income has risen to $2,554. It will exceed three thousand dollars this year.

Mohammad Tajul Islam said that Dhaka WASA has acquired the capacity to supply water in excess of the demand of the city dwellers in the capital. The government is also working tirelessly to meet the water needs of people across the country, including setting up water treatment plants in Chittagong, Rajshahi and Khulna.

The Minister said that several initiatives are being taken and work is underway to provide quality water to the people of Dhaka. Most of the pipelines installed for water supply have become unusable as they are very old. Now they are being replaced with better quality pipes.
