Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Awami League
General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that nothing will stop if BNP does not
take part in the meeting with the President. He said that besides BNP, they
have probably forgotten that, there are other political parties in this country.
Obaidul Quader made the remarks in a statement issued on
Saturday (January 8th) in response to a statement by BNP secretary general
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir about not participating in the president's
dialogue.
Obaidul Quader said the BNP's job is to debate any attempt
and achievement for the welfare of the government and the country. They are now
controversial to the people by trying to create controversy against the
government. Today they are on the brink of a deep abyss due to reckless
politics. Their cries are nothing but a failed attempt to cover up their own
failures and keep the morale of the leaders and workers.
Referring to the BNP's demand for a caretaker government,
the Awami League general secretary said, "Mr. Mirza Fakhrul has demanded
elections by handing over power to a non-partisan caretaker government." I
would like to say to Mr. Fakhrul, there is no need to demand elections from the
Sheikh Hasina government. At the end of the term of the government in time,
national elections will be held in the country in accordance with the
constitutional provisions. There is no room for doubt.
He also said in the statement that the BNP leader once said
that there is no one neutral except children and lunatics. We want to say that
the issue of caretaker government is now a thing of the past. Matters settled
by the High Court of the country. There is no benefit in heating the field.
Meanwhile, Obaidul Quader urged the BNP to prepare for the
elections.
