The verdict in the murder case of retired Army Major Sinha
Mohammad Rashed Khan will be announced on January 31. Cox's Bazar District and
Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail fixed the date of the verdict. Prosecutor
Faridul Alam confirmed the matter.
Following the testimony of 65 witnesses, arguments began in
the court of Judge Mohammad Ismail on Sunday and continued until January 12.
The judge fixed the date of the verdict after presenting the arguments of the
state and the defendants.
On July 31, 2020, Major Sinha was shot dead by police at the
Shamlapur checkpost in Teknaf. Sinha's elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdousi
filed a case against the then OC of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep and Liakat,
in-charge of Baharchhara Investigation Center.
Three police sources, including three members of the Armed
Police Battalion, were later arrested. After more than four months of
investigation, on 13 December last year, the investigating agency RAB filed
charges against 15 people.
Of these, 12 accused gave confessional statements under
section 164. On June 27, the court framed charges against 15 accused in the
case.
