Two police officers of Savar Model Police Station have been
attacked and beaten while trying to catch an accused in an extortion case in
Dhaka's Savar. Attempts have been made to snatch the accused from the police.
The incident took place at Nama Bazar in the municipal area on Friday (January
14) evening.
The injured policemen are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of
Savar Model Police Station Ashok Kumar Dutt and Md. Saifuzzaman.
According to police, ASI Ashok Kumar Dutt and ASI
Saifuzzaman of Savar Model Police Station went to arrest Sharif Uddin Fakir, an
accused in an extortion case in Nama Bazar area at night. At the time of his
arrest, the people of accused Sharif Uddin Fakir beat up two ASIs of the police
and tried to snatch the accused. Later, the officers arrested the accused and
brought him to the police station. They were then admitted to Savar Upazila
Health Complex and given first aid. The police filed a case against five or six
unidentified persons by naming three persons as plaintiffs in the incident.
Meanwhile, the people of the accused prevented the
journalists from taking pictures of the accused in the incident.
In this regard, Savar Model Police Station OC Kazi Mainul
Islam said that an operation is underway to arrest the other accused in the
case.
