Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy has been serving the people of the city for 19 consecutive years, once as the Chairman of the Municipality and twice as the Mayor of the City Corporation. She has won every election by a wide margin against rival candidates. When she was elected chairman of the Narayanganj municipality in 2003 with the party support of the Awami League, she had a big identity, she was the daughter of the late mayor Ali Ahmed Chunkar. Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, who had just entered politics, surprised everyone by defeating the ruling party BNP candidate Nurul Islam Sardar at that time. She was elected chairman at that time by a huge margin of votes. Since then, she has been serving the city dwellers continuously.

Not only the development of Narayanganj City, he has been fighting against Godfatherism in his long political life. Ivy has always been vocal against terrorism, extortion and land grabbing, including the overall development of Narayanganj City. Ivy's uncompromising attitude against terrorism, extortion and land grabbing has made her popular among the people of Narayanganj who are worried and angry over the disappearances and murders in the city. To the people of the country, the name Selina Hayat Ivy is now a beacon of honest and transparent image politicians, an uncompromising courage against injustice. Ivy proved to be popular after a long nineteen years in power. Analysts see the rise to power as an important example for Bangladesh's national politics. Especially Bangladesh Awami League has been in power for 13 consecutive years. If the Awami League, which has been in power for a long time, is free from corruption, works properly and is popular, then this Narayanganj City Corporation election is a big proof that the Awami League will not be unpopular either.
