The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Federal Republic of Germany concluded
a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the People’s
Republic of Bangladesh. Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Senior Secretary of the Foreign
Ministry, and Mr. Martin Schulz, President of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, signed
the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperative engagements in an exchange of
letters.
The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung is the first German political foundation
that entered into an agreement of this kind with the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of Bangladesh in 2016.
Several development activities especially on small and
medium enterprises (SMEs) and discourse mapping through transformative change
making, and the Economy of Tomorrow were implemented successfully in the last
five years under the previous MoU.
In a spirit of mutual trust and confidence, both parties
agreed to renew the MoU and expand the areas of cooperation for another five
years based on these successes.
The broad areas of engagement for mutual collaboration and discourse
will include economic aspects, geo-economics and development of SMEs which are
significant for Bangladesh’s long-term growth and development; advancement of
regional and sub-regional trade relations and cooperation within and beyond
South Asia; and aspects relating to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals
in Bangladesh.
A handover event was held on Tuesday, 18 January 2022 at the
meeting room of MOFA, where Mr. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi DG (West Europe & EU)
and Mr. Felix Kolbitz, Resident Representative, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung,
Bangladesh were present.
