Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi has said that
DCs have been directed to run mobile courts to stop the use of polythene in the
country. The textile and jute minister told reporters after the third session
of the second day of the deputy commissioners' conference at the Osmani
Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (January 19).
"We want to stop using polythene and move to jute
bagging," he said. I have sought the cooperation of the deputy
commissioners to run at least two mobile courts at the Upazila level and one
mobile court at the district level. They will run mobile courts to stop the use
of bagging polythene.
Ghulam Dastagir said that the highest income of East
Pakistan was from jute sector. We want to go back to using jute. My hope is
that the jute and textile sectors will return completely.
Asked about the modernization plan to close the jute mills
in Khulna, the jute minister said the management of the lease system of the
jute mills would be in the hands of the private sector. We have already done
five tenders. I will hand them over in future. Two tenders have already been
handed over.
