Four motorcyclists were killed in a head-on collision
between a truck and a motorcycle at Dhamoirhat in Naogaon district. The
incident took place at Haratkidanga Bazar of the upazila around 9pm on Sunday
(January 23).
The deceased were identified as Abu Sufian (18), son of
Golzar Hossain of Nanaich village in Dhamoirhat Upazila, Abdus Salam (30) son
of Mozzammel Haque of the same village, Minhazul (28), son of Jewel Hossain of
Jahanpur village and Sajal (35), son of Helal Uddin of the same village.
According to local sources, all the victims were vegetable
traders. Sunday was the local village market day in Dhamairhat Upazila Sadar
Bazar. After selling goods at the market they were returning home together as
they were living in the same area. When they reached Hartkidanga Bazar area on
the Joypurhat-Dhamairhat regional highway from Dhamoirhat Bazar around 9pm, their
motorcycle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Two
people were killed on the spot. The locals rescued the other two seriously
injured and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex. But they also died on
Monday morning while being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as their
condition was very critical.
Dhamoirhat Police Station OC Rakibul Huda said the four were
returning home from Dhamoirhat Bazar on the same motorcycle. The bodies of the
two killed in the accident have been brought to the police station. The other
two died while being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The truck was
seized from Shalpi Bazaar with the help of locals.
