5 killed in trawler-bulkhead collision in Dakatia river in Chandpur

At least five people have been killed in a head-on collision between a trawler and a sand-carrying bulkhead due to thick fog at Dakatia river in Mominpur of Chandpur Sadar upazila this morning.

The accident happened on Monday (January 31) around 6 am.

Shahidul Islam, deputy director of Chandpur station of the fire service, confirmed the matter to the media.

He said bulkheads and trawlers collided head-on in the early hours of the morning due to heavy fog. 11 people went missing. Later, 6 people swam ashore but 5 bodies were recovered.

The deceased were identified as Md. Awal (50), Md. Mubarak (45), Mohammad Nasir (32), Al-Amin (35) and Nazrul (35).
