BNP disappointed with Khaleda Zia's return home: Information Minister

Awami League Joint-General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud has said that the BNP will return from the path it has chosen to create confusion over Begum Khaleda Zia's illness and will conduct programs to win the hearts of the people.

He made the remarks in an exchange of views with journalists on contemporary issues at the Secretariat on Wednesday (February 2nd).

He said that the BNP leaders were severely "injured and frustrated" when BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia returned home healthy.

Khaleda Zia has returned home. The movement that BNP leaders started over the illness of Khaleda Zia is still going on.

Asked whether he would now call on the BNP to withdraw the movement, the information minister said, "In fact, the BNP was severely injured when Begum Khaleda Zia returned home healthy." The BNP is deeply disappointed about why the doctors healed her and sent her home.

Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia returned to her home 'Firoza' in Gulshan on Tuesday evening after being treated at the Evercare Hospital for 81 consecutive days.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital on November 13. There, she was diagnosed with hemorrhage and liver cirrhosis by a medical board. When Khaleda Zia contracted the coronavirus on April 11 last year, she was admitted to the hospital twice.

Khaleda Zia had to go to jail on February 8, 2018 in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. She was later convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. The government released her on conditional interim release on March 25, 2020, considering the Corona epidemic, health condition and age. After that the release period was extended a few times.

Despite repeated requests from the BNP to send Khaleda Zia abroad for better treatment, the government never responded to the request.
