The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has again
increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). In the private sector,
the maximum retail price of 12 kg cylinder including LPG VAT has been increased
from Tk 1,178 to Tk 1,240. As a result, the customer will have to pay Tk 62
more for a 12 kg cylinder LPG.
The BERC said this in a statement on Thursday (February
3rd). The new price will be effective from 6 pm today.
According to the notification, the price of LPG has
increased by 8 Tk per kg. At the private level, for the month of February, LPG
including VAT has been increased from Tk 94.94 per kg to Tk 103.31 per kg. As
such, the maximum retail price of 12 kg cylinder LPG including VAT will be Tk
1,240.
According to the announcement, the price of autogas for
motor vehicles has also been increased from Tk 54.94 per liter including VAT to
57.81 Tk.
It is learned that propane and butane, the main ingredients
for making LPG, are imported from different countries. Aramco, a Saudi Arabian
company, publishes the price of these two components of LPG every month. This
is known as Saudi Cargo Price (CP). BERC adjusts the price of LPG in the
country based on this Saudi CP.
According to the Saudi CP, propane and butane were priced at 775 and 775 per ton, respectively, in February, considering the blending ratio was 35:65.
