Six-member search committee has been formed

President Abdul Hamid has formed a six-member search committee headed by Justice Obaidul Hasan.

The notification regarding the formation of the search committee was issued on Saturday (February 5) at noon.

Other members of the search committee are High Court Justice SM Quddus Zaman, former Election Commissioner Muhammad Sohul Hossain, writer, physician and late writer Syed Shamsul Haque's wife Anwara Syed Haque, Auditor General Muslim Chowdhury and Public Service Commission Chairman Mohammad Sohrab Hossain.

The circular said the inquiry committee would carry out its duties and responsibilities in accordance with the "Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022". The Cabinet Division will provide necessary secretarial assistance in performing tasks of the inquiry committee.

It is to be noted that the term of the present Election Commission is coming to an end on 14th February. A new election commission may be formed before that.
