5 killed as private car fell into pond in Chandpur

Five passengers, including the driver, were killed when a private car lost control and fell into a pond at Shahrasti upazila in Chandpur. 

The accident took place at Purba Narah village of Chitoshi East UP of the upazila around 1 am on Tuesday.

According to Shahrasti Model Police Station and fire service sources, a private car (Dhaka Metro-Ga 43-3721) lost control and fell into a pond in East Narah village on the way from Cumilla to Manoharganj at around 1 am. After receiving the news, locals and a team of Shahrasti Fire Service went to the spot and recovered the bodies of five people.

The deceased were identified – Md. Shahparan Tushar, 22, son of UP member Siddiqur Rahman Khokon of Hasnabad UP of Manoharganj upazila in Cumilla, Shakil, 23, son of late Rafiqul Islam of the Narpaiya village of the same area, Rezaul Karim, 23, son of Babul Mia of Chapa Keshtola village, Nayan, 24, son of Md. A Khalek of Dhanyakhola village of Jashore’s Sharsha upazila, and Md. Sagar Hossain, 24, son of Babul Hossain of Uttar Khailkur village of Gazipur Sadar Upazila. 

Shahrasti Model Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Morshedul Alam Bhuiyan said “the deceased were going to Chatkhil from Cumilla by a private car”.

Chandpur Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Md. Shahidul Islam said a unit of the fire service rescued the victims immediately and handed them over to the police.

Shahrasti Model Police OC Md. Abdul Mannan said the bodies of the deceased have been kept at the Ugharia Police Investigation Center. The bodies will be handed over to relatives after the legal process.
