Search committee will submit names to the President today

The search committee will submit a list of ten names to President Md Abdul Hamid on Thursday (February 24). The President will appoint a Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four Election Commissioners (ECs) from the list.

President's Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told the media that to form a strong and acceptable election commission the Search Committee tasked with shortlisting to assist the President and today the search committee will hand over their selected list to the President at Bangabhaban this evening.

He added that the President will finalize the names of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four other Election Commissioners from the list in the light of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Appointment Act-2022.

The Bangabhaban spokesperson further said that the names of the new Election Commission are expected to be announced soon.

Earlier, acting cabinet secretary Khandokar Anwarul Islam told the media that the committee had finalized the names of ten possible candidates. The list includes two candidates for the post of CEC and eight candidates for the post of Election Commissioner.
