We will protect people's right to vote: CEC

We will protect the right to vote and this is not a blank slate, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal. The CEC told reporters after a rally in front of the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday (March 2nd).

The CEC said that the theme of this year's Voters' Day is “Promise of Mujib's year, we will protect the voting right”. But this promise should not be a blank statement. It is certainly meaningful and it must be meaningful. Any promise is meaningful and that promise must be nurtured in heart. Preaching only by word without any intension to keep it is unnecessary, it must be nurtured and held in the heart.

The CEC further said that in the same way that the message of peace is conveyed by freeing the pigeons from the cage, the voters will exercise their voting right in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in a free and peaceful environment.
