High Court Writ to control soybean oil prices

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court to form a monitoring cell and formulate policies to control soybean oil prices.

On Sunday (March 8), three Supreme Court lawyers, Advocate Monir Hossain, Advocate Syed Mohidul Kabir and Advocate Mohammad Ullah, filed the writ petition.

The High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice SM Moniruzzaman will hear the writ petition today. The Commerce Secretary, Consumer Rights Authority and others have been challenged in the writ petition.

Earlier, on March 3, three lawyers brought the issue of soybean oil price hike to the notice of the High Court. They brought a report published in an English daily about the increase in the price of soybean oil to the attention of the court. According to the report, a class of unscrupulous traders in Bangladesh has raised the price of soybean oil at an unusual rate, taking advantage of the Russia-Ukraine war.
