The Dhaka-Washington Partnership Dialogue is set to take
place on Sunday (March 20). The talks will focus on security, sanctions on the
RAB, the Ukraine issue, military cooperation and more.
The dialogue in Dhaka will be led by Senior Secretary Masood
bin Momen and the US delegation will be led by Victoria Nuland, Under Secretary
of State.
Bangladesh is interested in enhancing political relations
with the United States. And Bangladesh is attaching special importance to
lifting the ban on current and former RAB officers. These issues are expected
to be discussed in the dialogue today.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen will hold a
meeting with US Secretary of State Antonio Blinken on April 4 in Washington. On
this day in 1972, the United States recognized Bangladesh. The meeting will
mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between
the two countries. The two countries will also exchange several high-level
visits, which will be discussed in the dialogue.
Victoria Nuland arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (March 19) to
join the dialogue. Masood bin Momen welcomed him at the airport.
The first partnership dialogue between Bangladesh and the
United States was held on 19 September 2012 in Washington. Since then, the
dialogue has been held once a year in Dhaka and next time in Washington. However,
due to Corona, this dialogue has not been held for the last two years.
