Around 8.5 lakh people to get skill development training

Around 8.5 lakh potential people will be given skill development training coupled with their post-training employment in the country until 2024.

The training and jobs will be provided with intervention of the "Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP)" which is being implemented with the main thrust of ensuring poverty alleviation and sustainable development.

These were revealed in a daylong district-level orientation workshop related to skill development held at the office conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) here yesterday. The programme has been launched in the district through the workshop.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Zafarullah and SEIP Deputy Executive Director Muhammed Yasin addressed the workshop as chief and special guests respectively with DC Abdul Jalil in the chair.

SEIP Gender and Social Development Specialist Mahbuba Farzana also spoke.

The meeting was told that the SEIP will generate skilled workforces through need-based technical training. Orphan, physically challenged, ethnic minority, unemployed youth, women, poor underprivileged and disadvantaged people will get priority in the training.

The beneficiaries will get the training free of cost totally and the SEIP has provision of providing jobs to 60 percent of the trainees.

Apart from this, 30 percent women participation will be ensured in the training activities for boosting participation of women in working fields. The beneficiary people will be given special stipend side by side with training allowance during the training course.

They will get training on various income-generating trades, including readymade garments, textile, information and communication technology, light engineering, leather and shoe, ship building, healthcare, agro-food processing, tourism and hospitality, motor driving and basic repairing and
maintenance.

The SEIP training activities will be implemented through the SME division of Bangladesh Bank and 13 private level industry associations in the light of demands in labour-markets.
