Those who are silently contributing to the country should be rewarded: PM

Calling for finding those who are quietly contributing to the country and society, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "There are many people in many parts of the country who serve the people on their own initiative. We need to find those people and reward them."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the remarks while handing over medals to the recipients of the Independence Award and their representatives at a ceremony held at the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday (March 24) morning.

In recognition of their glorious and meritorious contribution at the national level, the Independence Award 2022 has been given to 9 individuals and 2 organizations. The Prime Minister paid her respects to the freedom fighters Siraj Uddin Ahmed and Abdul Jalil who received the Medal of Independence.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "Those who are contributing to the welfare of the people, contributing to the development of the country, may never come to publicity. They are out of sight. They should be found and rewarded."

She added, "I think it's a great honor for me, at least to be able to hand over the award. So after a long time I got the opportunity to come to this office. And so far I was participating programs in online."

The recipients of the award this year are:

Heroic freedom fighter Ilyas Ahmed Chowdhury, Martyred Colonel Khandaker Nazmul Huda (Bir Bikram), Abdul Jalil, Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Late Mohammad Sahiuddin Biswas and Late Sirajul Haque are receiving medals for independence and liberation war.

In medicine, Professor Kanak Kanti Barua and Professor Mohammad Kamrul Islam have received the Independence Award. The late architect Syed Mainul Hossain in architecture. This time, Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute (BWMRI) and Power Department have received the award.
