Ambulances, private cars and CNG-powered autorickshaws are
stopping in front of the International Institute of Diarrhea Research
Bangladesh (ICDDR, B), a medical institute for cholera patients in the capital.
And from those vehicles two to three people are unloading one patient at a
time. Fatigue is evident in the eyes of every patient. Not only in ICDDR, but the
similar picture is seen in many hospitals in the capital.
It has been seen on the spot that a temporary shed has been
constructed at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital to treat diarrhea
patients. The health workers of the hospital said that this was the first time
that a temporary shed had to be constructed due to the high number of diarrhea
patients. As many as 800 diarrhea patients were being treated at the hospital
till noon on Saturday.
Ahsan Habib Sajal, Ward Boy of Sir Salimullah Medical
College Hospital, said that 60 to 70 patients are coming from Dhaka metropolis
and its environs every hour.
Meanwhile, speaking to the concerned people of ICDDRB

hour yesterday. 861 patients have been admitted to the hospital from 12 noon on
Friday to 4 pm yesterday. One thousand 274 people were admitted in the previous
24 hours.
