UN Secretary General phone call with PM

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They exchanged greetings and talked for about 12 minutes.

A press release signed by the Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said that the UN Secretary General telephoned the Prime Minister on Tuesday (April 12) evening.

The UN Secretary General invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to join the 'Champions Group of Global Crisis Response' platform on food, energy and finance. The Prime Minister gladly accepted the invitation and thanked the UN Secretary General.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep satisfaction to the Presidents of Indonesia and Senegal, the Prime Ministers of Barbados and Denmark for joining the same platform.

Stating that she is keen to work closely with other leaders, the Prime Minister expressed her confidence in meeting the group's goals. Sheikh Hasina said that she is ready to be involved in various issues including high level dialogue to fulfill the objectives of the group.

The Prime Minister briefed the UN Secretary General on various issues including the ongoing war in Ukraine, food, energy and economy after the Corona epidemic.

Sheikh Hasina reiterates her commitment to respond to the UN call for contributing to global peace, stability and development.

The Prime Minister mentioned Bangladesh's participation in UN peacekeeping, implementation of sustainable development, climate issues and gender equality.

The UN Secretary General requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to nominate a 'Sherpa' (representative) to represent Bangladesh in the 'Champions Group of Global Crisis Response' on food, energy and finance.
