Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important and emotional day
for the Muslims across the world. The day is observed with great passion in the
country. Everybody is in the good mood and to make the day even more special
people buy new clothes to wear on this special day. Everyone needs extra money
at this time. So the expatriate remittance fighters are sending more and more
money keeping in mind the extra expenses of the family.
According to the latest data from the central bank,
remittances from five state-owned commercial banks reached 189 million USD in
the first 13 days of April. Amount of Remittances coming through private banks
is 716.2 million USD. 3.3 million came through foreign banks and 10.6 million
US dollars has come to the specialized bank.
According to the Central Bank, remittances worth USD 927.5
million were sent by expatriates on the first 13 days of April this year. At
the current exchange rate in Bangladeshi currency (86.20 taka per dollar) this
figure is about 8 thousand crore taka. Central Bank officials expect
remittances to reach 2000 million by the end of the month if the current flow
continues.
According to the central bank, expatriates sent 1860 million dollars in
remittances in March. Which is 24 percent more than the previous month or 365.5
million dollars more.
