Quiet New Market area, shops not opened

The situation is much calmer today after two days of clashes in the New Market area. Traffic is normal. However, the New Market and all the surrounding markets have not been opened yet. Employees of different shops are standing in front of the shop.

Traffic in the area has been normal since Wednesday (April 20) morning after all roads in the area, including New Market, were blocked on Tuesday. Although the movement of small and medium vehicles resumed yesterday after evening, other heavy vehicles including public transport have started on the road since this morning.

The second day of clash between the traders-student started at 10 am on Tuesday and continued till evening. On the same day, the students closed all the roads in New Market and surrounding areas from 6 am. At around 5 pm, some vehicles came on the road but the road was blocked again within ten minutes.

It can be seen that there is a sufficient number of police deployed in the vicinity of Dhaka College Gate and in the News Market area. There is a suppressed panic in everyone.

Meanwhile, traders are waiting for the opening of shops and shopping malls in New Market on Wednesday morning as the presence of students on the road is not noticeable. The presence of shop owners and employees is noticeable under almost every market. Traders say they have suffered a lot as shops have been closed for a whole day during the Eid season.

Traders of Chandrima Super Market said that Eid season is going on. If the market is not opened at this time, there will be big losses. I came to open the shop today, but no decision has been made yet. I will open the shop as soon as the decision is made.

Meanwhile, students of seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University have called for a protest and human chain at Nilkhet corner around 10 am on Wednesday to protest the attack of police and businessmen on Dhaka College students. Ismail Samrat, the chief coordinator of the seven college movement, said this in a press release sent to the media around 12 midnights on Tuesday.
