Police have filed two cases in connection with the clash
between students and businessmen of Dhaka College in New Market area. One
thousand 200 people have been accused in two cases under unknown identities.
New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Qayyum
confirmed the matter on Thursday (April 21) morning.
According to New Market Police Station sources, two cases
have been registered under the Explosives Act and assault on police.
OC SM Qayyum said 24 people have been charged in connection
with the attack on police in a clash between students and businessmen in the
New Market area and a case has been registered against 1,000 unnamed and
anonymous people. Police have also filed another case under the Explosives Act.
There are 200 unidentified accused in that case.
He further said that the plaintiffs in the two cases,
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Newmarket Police Station Mehedi Hasan and Inspector
(Investigation) Yamin Kabir had filed two cases last (Wednesday) night. We are
investigating two cases with utmost seriousness.
Meanwhile, Morsalin (26) and Nahid (18) were killed in the
clash. Besides, a student of Dhaka College has been admitted to Square Hospital
in the capital in critical condition. Nahid's father has filed a case with New
Market Police Station over his death.
It is to be mentioned that on Monday night, some students of
Dhaka College had a quarrel with the staff of a food shop in New Market of the
capital. As a result, traders and shopkeepers of New Market clashed with
students of Dhaka College in the middle of the night. After that, the clash
continued till Wednesday.
