Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Professor
Sudarshan Seneviratne said that Sri Lanka wants to see Bangladesh as a
strategic partner. He said that in the newly developed globalized world, the
two countries need to take more care of each other.
A recent speech by Sudarshan Seneviratna on the occasion of
50 years of Bangladesh-Sri Lanka friendship was published in Sri Lankan media
on Saturday (April 23).
In his speech, he said that both the countries are
stakeholders of the larger family represented in SAARC, BIMSTEC and IORA. Dhaka
and Colombo need to improve together. That is why Sri Lanka wants investment
from Bangladesh.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner said that the dynamics of
the spheres of global power around the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal have increased.
The desire for their involvement in the region is also growing.
"In the South Asia region, we are now witnessing a
highly developed competitive attitude," he said. And the future of South
Asia depends on it. This is because the global neoliberal political and
economic system has begun to have an aggressive effect on the region. It can
definitely change the balance of power and harmony between the countries of
South Asia.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner said, "I wish another
50 years of friendship and solidarity between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka."
Private sector shipping companies in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have recently
started joint ventures and government-owned shipping corporations are working
together.
