DMP Commissioner eliminates possibility of militant attack in Eid Jamaat

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Moha. Shafiqul Islam today said there is no fear of militant attack around the holy Eid-ul-Fitr congregation. Four tiers of security have been set up around the main Eid Jamaat at the National Eidgah.

He said this while talking to reporters after inspecting the security arrangements in the National Eidgah Maidan on Sunday.

The DMP commissioner said the worshipers would not be able to enter the Eidgah with anything other than janamaz and umbrellas. Everyone must enter through the archway gate after being searched.

Mentioning that four tiers of security have been put in place around the main Eid Jamaat at the National Eidgah, the DMP commissioner said the bomb disposal unit will be sweeping before the congregation and there will be CCTV cameras.

He said this year’s Eid is an “exception” compared to other times. For the last 2 years, the excitement of the festival was not so much due to COVID. This time Eid will be celebrated with more enthusiasm at all levels. Adequate measures will be taken for Eid-centric security.

“I am requesting you not to bring anything outside the umbrella and janamaz when you come to the Eidgah. There will be a long queue at the entrance, it will take some time to search and enter. So I urge everyone to bring some time in hand,” the DMP commissioner said.

He said Eid Jamaat will be held in 1,468 places in Dhaka this time and DMP will provide security in all of them.

The DMP commissioner requested the worshipers to come to the Eidgah before the scheduled time as the search would take time.
