Asani likely to weaken in next 12 hours

The severe cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ over west-central Bay and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards over the same area and lay centred at 06:00 am on Tuesday (May, 10) about 1180 kms southwest of Chattogram port, 1140 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1040 kms southwest of Mongla port and 1045 kms southwest of Payra port, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said. 

It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction and weaken into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours, the Met Office said in a release issued this morning. 

Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 kms of the severe cyclone centre is about 89 kph rising to 117 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain high near the severe cyclone centre. 

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal no Two. 

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
