Padma bridge ready to open for traffic

As the paving of the main part of the dream Padma bridge has been completed, the road of the Padma bridge is now fully ready for traffic.

On Monday (May 23) at around 4:30 pm, the concerned engineers and construction workers completed the work of casting the pitch of the connecting road (South Viaduct) of the latest Jazira section.

Padma Bridge Executive Engineer (Main Bridge) Dewan Mohammad Abdul Quader confirmed the matter.

According to the relevant sources, the work of pouring pitch on the bridge was started on November 10 last year to make it suitable for traffic. After five months and 19 days, the work was completed on April 29 in the 6.15 km section of the main bridge. After that the paving of the road connecting the two banks started simultaneously.

On Thursday (May 19) at around 7:30 pm, the work of paving the road connecting the Mawa side of the Padma Bridge was completed. The paving of the last Jazira end connecting road was completed today.

Meanwhile, among the remaining works of the bridge, work is in full swing for road marking and 415 lampposts to illuminate the bridge. Work has started to install railings.

According to the source, the road marking work will be completed within this month. Power connection work is also going on.

The dream Padma Bridge is being built on the fast flowing Padma river with its own funds of Tk 30,193 crore. Construction of the two-storey bridge, which started in 2014, is expected to be opened to traffic in June.
