Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan and his
associates could be arrested on their way from Peshawar to the capital
Islamabad.
Pakistan’s local media Geo TV reported the matter, further
stating that the government is “planning to arrest” Imran Khan and his
associates on their way back.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is
preparing a procession that will be left for the capital Islamabad on
Wednesday. Although the party had earlier announced an “Azadi March” towards
the capital, the government did not allow the rally.
Citing a top security official, The News reported that
strict measures would be taken to prevent Imran Khan’s party from holding a
rally in Islamabad. The government has decided to use all its power to thwart
the long march of PTI. Imran Khan and his accomplices could be arrested from
Long March.
Earlier on Tuesday, police conducted an operation against
PTI activists and officials. Section 144 has been issued in Lahore, Karachi,
Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Roads to Islamabad from different parts of the
country have also been closed.
The Pakistani government has also called on the army to help
protect Islamabad’s Red Zone.
However, despite all obstacles, PTI chairman Imran Khan and
his associates have promised to remain in Islamabad until new elections are
announced.
