India-Bangladesh Passenger Train Services Resume After Two Years

After nearly two years of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Maitree Express between Kolkata and Dhaka resumed services on Sunday (May 29). 

The Maitree Express carrying 165 passengers left Dhaka Cantonment Railway Station for Kolkata at 8:15 am. Dhirendra Nath Majumder, Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Railways, inaugurated it. 

The Director-General of Bangladesh Railway said that from now, the train will run five days a week. 

The journey of the first India-Bangladesh international passenger train Maitree Express started on April 14, 2008, the day of Bengali New Year.

The inter-country train services between Bangladesh and India have been suspended since March 15, 2020, after the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
