A Hajj pilgrim from Chapainawabganj has died after reaching Saudi Arabia. The deceased was identified as Md Jahangir Kabir, 59. He passed away on Satuday in Makkah al-Mukarramah.
A total of 7,573 pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia since
June 5.
This is the first death of a Bangladeshi pilgrim in this
year’s Hajj, confirmed Mohammad Mahbub Alam, a seasonal Hajj officer in Saudi
Arabia.
Till now, 19 flights have been operated to take pilgrims to
Saudi Arabia. Of these, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operated 11 flights, Saudia
Airlines operated five flights while Flynas operated three.
The holy Hajj will be held in Saudi Arabia on July 7 (Zilhaj
9) subject to the sighting of the moon.
This year, a total of 56,585 pilgrims, including 4,000 in
government and 53,585 in private management, are scheduled to travel to Saudi
Arabia for the holy pilgrimage.
A total of 128 flights will be operated from Bangladesh for
Hajj. Biman will carry Hajj passengers on 65 flights, Saudia on 51 flights and
Flynas on 12 flights.
The last Hajj flight from Dhaka will leave on July 4.
