The northeastern part of the country has been flooded once again.
The Center for Flood Forecasting and Warning also warned that the flood
situation could worsen in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona.
The Water Development Board's (PAUBO) Flood Forecast and
Warning Center issued a warning on Wednesday (June 15th).
Mohammad Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, executive engineer of the
Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, said the water levels in all major rivers
in the country were rising.
According to the Meteorological Department's mathematical
model forecast, moderate to heavy rain is expected in the northern part of the
country, northeast and adjoining parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Himalayan
foothills in West Bengal by Friday (June 16). As a result, the water level of
Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar and Ganga-Padma rivers may
continue to rise.
In addition, the flood situation in the northeastern
districts of Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona may deteriorate. Again, the water
level of the river Teesta may rise near the danger level and temporarily exceed
the danger level.
Three rivers are now flowing over the danger level. Now
three rivers are flowing over the danger zone. Surma water is flowing at 58 cm
above the danger level at Kanaighat in Sylhet and 23 cm at Sunamganj. The water
of Sarigowain River is flowing at 20 cm above the danger level at Sarighat and
the water of Someshwari is flowing 42 cm above the danger level at Kalmakanda
of Netrakena.
According to the Water Development Board, out of 109 points
under its observation, the water level has risen to 85, decreased to 23 and
remained unchanged in another.
