PM on her way to monitor flood situation in Sylhet

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on her way to the visit the flood-hit northern region including Sylhet and Netrakona to see for herself the devastation and the measures taken to mitigate the sufferings of the marooned people.

The premier started her journey on a helicopter at around 8am on Tuesday morning.

Her helicopter will land at MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, confirmed the premier's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.

More than 40 lakh people in Sunamganj and Sylhet have been marooned due to heavy showers and continuous onrush of water from upstream areas in India.

Several units of the Bangladesh Army started rescue operations in flood-hit Sylhet and Sunamganj districts on Friday afternoon. 

Bangladesh Navy joined the rescue efforts on Saturday.
