The ongoing floods in Sylhet have damaged 40,091 houses. The
district administration has sent a letter to the Ministry of Disaster
Management and Relief requesting for allocation of funds and grants for the
construction and repair of the damaged houses. Besides, a list of other losses
including crops has also been sent.
The Sylhet district administration sent the list last
Tuesday night. This information was given by the district administration on
Wednesday (June 29).
According to the district administration, 13 upazilas and
five municipalities, including the city corporation, were inundated by the
floods. The floods inundated 3 million people in the district. So far 2 lakh 52
thousand 784 people have taken shelter in 614 shelters of the district.
The district administration further said that so far 1,612
metric tonnes of rice, 20,218 packets of dry food and Tk 1.92 crore in cash
have been allocated for the floods. Besides, 65 lakh cash was allocated from
the Prime Minister's Office.
1,587 metric tons of dry food and 19,918 packets have been
distributed till Wednesday. Besides, Tk 1.92 crore received from the Ministry
of Disaster Management and Tk 65 lakh received from the Prime Minister's Office
have also been distributed.
Ahsanul Alam, assistant commissioner (media cell) of the
Sylhet district administration said that, the list of flood-damaged houses was
sent to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief by the district
administration on Tuesday night. Besides, a list of other losses including
crops has also been sent. Requests were also made to allocate necessary funds
for all these damaged houses and crops.
