The court has fixed August 11 for the bail hearing of Ismail
Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, the expelled president of Dhaka Metropolitan South
Juba League, in the case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Al Asad Mohammad Asifuzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge's
Court-6 set the date on Wednesday (July 6th).
Today was fixed for Samrat’s bail hearing and formation of
charges, however, the prison authorities did not send him to court due to his
illness and sent a custody warrant. The judge then fixed August 11 for Samrat’s
bail hearing and chargesheet hearing.
Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 Judge Al Asad Md. Asifuzzaman’s
court granted bail to Samrat in the case on May 11. He was granted bail in
three more cases filed against him before being granted bail in the case.
Samrat was released from the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical
University (BSSMU) on May 11 after getting bail in all four cases.
On May 18, the High Court bench comprising Justice Md.
Nazrul Islam Talukdar and Justice Kazi Md. Ezarul Haque Akand canceled Samrat’s
bail in the ACC case. At the same time, Samrat was ordered to surrender to the
court within seven days.
On May 24, Samrat surrendered through a lawyer and appealed
for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail petition and ordered
to send him to jail.
Samrat was secured bail on April 11 in a case filed under
the Narcotics Control Act with Ramna police station. A day earlier, on April
10, a separate Dhaka court granted him bail in two separate cases under the
Money Laundering and Arms Control Act.
On October 6, 2019, the RAB arrested Samrat and his aide
Enamul Haque alias Arman from Cumilla.
