Bangladesh Bank governor Abdur Rauf Talukder takes office today

The new Governor of Bangladesh Bank Abdur Rauf Talukder has taken charge on Tuesday morning (July 12). He is the 12th Governor of the central bank.

The new governor was welcomed by four deputy governors of the central bank at 10 am. Officers and employees of the Central Bank were present at the time.

Earlier on June 11, Abdur Rauf Talukder was appointed as the 12th Governor of Bangladesh Bank for four years on the condition of retiring from government service and resigning from all other institutions and organizations.

Abdur Rauf Talukder was born in 1964 at Tarakandi village under Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district. He was appointed as the Finance Secretary on July 17, 2018. Earlier, in October 2017, he became the Additional Secretary of the Finance Department. Prior to that, he was the Senior Assistant Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Department. He is also responsible for the implementation of various projects under the Finance Department.

Rauf, a BCS 1985 batch officer, joined the government service as an officer as a 'Secretariat Cadre'. A decade and a half ago, the secretariat cadre was abolished and merged with the administration cadre.

During his career, Rauf Talukder served in various government ministries. He specializes in various fields including financial management, especially in the formulation of the country's budget. He gained skills by participating in workshops on economics in various countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
