BNP's demand for caretaker government will never be fulfilled: Agriculture Minister

Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak said, “In Japan, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom, elections were held under the supervision of the Election Commission. There is no caretaker government anywhere in the world. BNP is constantly asking about the caretaker government. It will never happen.

He made the remarks after a meeting on public-private partnership (PPP) in the agriculture sector at the Agriculture Ministry's conference room at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 14th) at noon.

The minister said, we all want a truly fair election and a strong and capable Election Commission. An Election Commission that will independently conduct an impartial election. The Prime Minister, military forces, law and order forces will all cooperate with the Election Commission. This is what is in our constitution and according to the constitution we will hold elections.

He also said that elections are an important issue for the establishment of democracy. Our election is also approaching. Foreigners want our elections to be fair, impartial and acceptable to all. That is why we have appointed a new election commission.

"If foreigners have any opinion, any suggestion in any process of election and if they want to cooperate with us, it will be welcomed," he said, adding that the BNP was in talks with them. I want tell the BNP that if they want to come to power, they have to go to the people. No matter how powerful the US ambassador is, they will not be able to play a significant role in the election.

Agriculture Secretary Md Saidur Rahman and other officials of the Ministry of Agriculture were present at the meeting.
