Considering the current global situation, the government is
planning to “not produce electricity with diesel”, close petrol pumps for one
day a week, carry out area-based load shedding to save electricity, reduce the
working hours of public and private offices, and make offices online.
The information was provided in a press conference about the
electricity situation at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Energy, Power, and Mineral
Resources Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, on the other hand, said, “Power
production by diesel has been halted in the country.”
After the impact of the COVID pandemic, the government has
repeatedly informed that the power generation in the country is being disrupted
due to the increase in the price of fuel due to the impact of the
Russia-Ukraine war.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also warned everyone about
the matter.
According to government data, the demand for electricity
across the country is about “9 percent less” than the production — which has to
be adjusted through load shedding.
To resolve the crisis, recommendations will be sent to the
Cabinet Division to take several steps including opening the home office, and
reducing the working hours of the office, said Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury.
