Metrorail construction cost up by Tk 11,514 cr

11 thousand 514 crores Tk has been increased for the Metrorail project. This cost has been increased due to increasing the distance of 1.6 km as well as increasing the implementation period by one and a half years. As a result, the Tk 21 thousand 958 crore project will now cost Tk 33 thousand 471 crore 99 lakh. A total of eight projects, including the Metrorail project, have been approved in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The projects were approved on Tuesday (July 19) at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sherebangla Nagar. ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting through video conference from Ganobhaban with NEC conference room. After the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan and State Minister for Planning Dr. Shamsul Alam gave details in the press conference.

The Planning Minister said that the total cost of implementing eight projects will be 15 thousand 856 crores and 80 lakhs. Out of this, 12 thousand 444 crore 25 lakh taka will be available from government funds, 3 thousand 277 crore 98 lakh taka will be available from foreign loans and 134 crore 57 lakh taka will be available from the organization's own funds.

Approved projects are—

Upgradation of Chittagong-Rangamati National Highway (N-106) from Hathajari to Raujan to 4-lane (1st Revised), Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development (Line-6) (2nd Revised), upgradation project of two regional highways to proper mean width; Itakhola-Mathkhola-Katiadi road (R-211) and Nayapara-Araihajar-Narsingdi-Raipura (R-114) two regional highways under Narsingdi road division.

Also construction of gas pipeline from Dhanua to Mymensingh for gas supply to Mymensingh Combined Cycle Power Plant, Population Based Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening Program (EPCBCSP) (2nd Revised) with electronic data tracking, conservation of Khagrachari Town and Adjacent Infrastructure from River Erosion, Upazila Governance and Development Project (UGDP) (Second Revised), Greater Dinajpur District Rural Infrastructure Development Project.
