Bangladesh’s population growth reduced by 0.24%

The population growth rate in the country has “reduced by 0.24 percent”. This information was given at the BBS’s first digital ‘Population and Housing Census 2022’ preliminary report publication ceremony at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital on Wednesday.

According to the census data, the population growth rate in this census is 1.22 percent — which was 1.46 percent in 2011, 1.58 percent in 2001, 2.01 percent in 1991, and 2.84 percent in 1981. That is, since the beginning of the census, the population growth rate has been “gradually decreasing”.

According to the preliminary data, as per this year’s ‘Population and Housing Census 2022’, the total population of the country is 16,51,58,616 – which was 14,40,43,697 in 2011.    

That means – in the last 10 years, the population of the country has increased by 2,11,14,919 people.
