Bus-auto rickshaw collision in Gazipur, death toll rises to 5

Five people were killed in a head-on collision between a battery-powered auto-rickshaw and a passenger bus at Makishbathan TNT area in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur. Among them, two died on the spot, including the driver, and three others died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The accident took place on Saturday (July 30) around 11:15 pm.

The deceased are - Auto rickshaw driver Nazrul Islam (27) son of Ayub Ali of Sheikh Bari village of Bhuyapur police station of Tangail district, Mehedi Hasan (44) son of Momin Uddin Sikdar of Angarpara village of Barguna Sadar police station, Atiqul Islam (42) son of deceased Azim Uddin of Hijlatali village of Kaliakair police station of Gazipur, Saidul Islam Rubel (27) son of Babul Mia of Latifpur village of the same upazila and Shahin Uddin (28) son of Ataur Rahman of Dahar village of Magura police station of Jessore district.

Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Bashar and Sub-Inspector (SI) Rahat Akand of Kaliakair police station confirmed the matter.

“The victims were headed toward home on an autorickshaw when a ‘KP Paribahan’ bus rammed into the vehicle. In the aftermath of the crash, all of the passengers of the autorickshaw, including the driver, fell on the road,” SI Rahat said.

“At that time, another speeding bus ‘Itihash Paribahan’ ran over them,” he added.

Police managed to seize the "Itihash Paribahan" bus.
