A new era of Bangladesh cricket in Asia Cup?

Bangladesh cricket team is unable to get out of the circle of failure in the T20 version of cricket. Recently, there has been a change in the captaincy. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wants to change the mentality of the cricketers starting from the team plan. BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon has claimed that people will see a new version of the Bangladesh cricket team in the upcoming Asia Cup.

After Tamim retired from T20, there was always one question coming round who will dethrone him. Since the last T20 World Cup, the team management has tried several batsmen for the opening position. The names of cricketers like Munim Shahriar, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Saif Hasan or Naeem Sheikh are in this list. No one could do justice to Tamim's name. None of them made it to the upcoming Asia Cup squad. The poor condition of the opening position is only a fragment of the team.

Looking at the statistics of the last 15 matches, Bangladesh has not won as many matches as many batsmen have played in this opening position. Tigers won only 2 matches against 13 losses. Tigers lack a enormous amount of skills in this specific format. Especially, the batting department is in very poor state. There are no power hitters in the team or players who could score quick runs. T20 is still a game of runs but the tigers definitely lack skills in this department. Despite all the challenges, the team management wants to do something new by changing the mentality and planning of the team.

In this context, Nazmul Hasan Papon said, 'We are not strong in T20. As we pondered what to do, we made a decision. In this Asia Cup, I want to change the whole mentality, the thought process of the players. I want to see if we can start anew with this.'

Bangladesh was overwhelmed in the last T20 World Cup. Tigers started the campaign with a loss against Scotland. Since then, as time has passed, the scale of failure has become heavier. Bangladesh passed the qualifying round by winning two matches on the soil of the United Arab Emirates. But the team did not win any match in the Super Twelve phase. The condition of the Tigers, who failed in all the matches in this phase, was like 'Leave mother, cry and live'.

Meanwhile the World cup is knocking at the door after Asia Cup. However, considering the team's recent form and ability, there is no chance to be too optimistic in the upcoming Asia Cup. Like the last World Cup, this fight for the superiority of Asia will be held on the soil of the United Arab Emirates. Whereas the statistics of Bangladesh are only disappointing.

Regarding the possibility of success of Bangladesh in the upcoming Asia Cup, the BCB president said, The World Cup is right after Asia Cup. Our performance in the last World Cup was very poor. I don't know if we will be able to get up on our feet this soon.'
