Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that a total of 131.57 km (126.57 km on the Bangladesh side and 5 km on the Indian side) pipeline is being constructed with the funding of the Government of India under the construction project of India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.

At present, 60-80 thousand metric tons of diesel is imported annually from India through railway wagons. Once the construction of the pipeline is completed, it will be possible to import about 10 lakh metric tons of diesel from India annually.

The Prime Minister said this at a press conference organized on Wednesday (September 14) afternoon about her visit to India. The press conference was held at Ganabhaban, the residence of the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that the construction of the pipeline will save fuel oil transportation cost and diesel can be imported from India to meet the needs of the country's railways easily, quickly and even in adverse environment.

Out of the 126.50 km pipeline of Bangladesh part, 125 km pipeline has been laid, she said.

Parbatipur currently has a storage capacity of 15,000 metric tons. Under the ongoing project, the storage capacity will increase by 28,800 metric tons.
